A quick art tip I haven’t seen shared very often:

Magnetic clips are a godsend for artists. Let me explain:

I bought these cheap magnetic clips on Temu and they are able to clip onto the sides of my drawing board. They are also able to clip onto my sketchbook while on the go. This allows me to stick any metal item onto the sides of my art board. They can hold metal cups filled with pens or pencils or paint brushes. They can also hold metal watercolor pallets. Basically I can keep all my art supplies in metal containers.. and switch them out on my art board depending on what medium I’m working in at the time. So the arrangement of my art supplies can change quickly and easily depending on what I need.

The magnets before adding the metal cups.
These cups hold my pencils and inking supplies. But it’s simple to switch them out for a metal watercolor palette if needed.

They can also hold metal rulers. I’ve even taken to hot gluing a metal strip to a plastic watercolor palette JUST so I could stick it to my art board.

A magnetic clip attached to a sketchbook makes a cheap and easy solution for plein air painting.

I find myself wandering around my studio searching for magnetic items to stick to my art board. I’m telling you.. it’s magnets! The secret is magnets!! Hopefully some of you may find this useful. If you have, be sure to let me know.
